Ye Must Be Born Again I
am speaking as a Biblical Born-Again Evangelical
Christian. ............................................................................................
It
is believed by most Catholics that Jesus was speaking of the
water baptism in John chapter three. They do not believe in being
born again, born of the Spirit of God. Some Catholics go as far as
to say that such a belief is very new, as late as the
1900s.
When
Jesus responded to Nicodemus, speaking of the need for us to be born
again, He began by saying, "Verily, verily." --Jesus was saying that
what Jesus was about to say is the truth and a very important truth,
to be trusted. Jesus then said: "I say unto thee, Except a man be
born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of
God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is
born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye
must be born again."
Jesus compared being born of the water
to being born of the flesh. And He said born of the Spirit, is
spirit. --People who are born again, are not just born of the water
(the flesh birth), but we are also born of the Spirit (capital "S" -
The Holy Spirit.) Jesus is not speaking of a water baptism in this
text.
And this teaching goes back to days that Jesus walked this earth, as
it is in the
bible. Debra
